ASARCO LLC is a mining, smelting, and refining company based in Tucson, Arizona, USA, that mines and processes primarily copper. The company is a subsidiary of Grupo M�xico.
Its three largest open-pit mines are the Mission, Silver Bell and the Ray mines in Arizona. Its mines produce 350 to 400 million pounds of copper a year. A small amount of silver, & gold is also produced as a by product.
Asarco conducts solvent extraction and electrowinning at the Ray and Silver Bell mines in Pima County, Arizona and Pinal County, Arizona and a smelter in Hayden, Arizona.
Before its smelting plant in El Paso, Texas was suspended in 1999 it was producing about 1 billion pounds of anodes each year. Both, refining at the mines as well as at a copper refinery in Amarillo, Texas produce 375 million pounds of refined copper each year.
The mine that you can visit at this site is the Mission Complex, an open-pit mine composed of the Mission, Eisenhower, Pima, Mineral Hill, the South San Xavier properties, and the nearby North San Xavier mine.
The Mission Complex Open Pit Mine is currently is 2.5 miles long by 1.5 mile wide and 1,200 feet deep. It is situated on 20,000 acres. The pits benches are 40 feet high.

Exhibit Center and Gift Shop: 9:00A.M. to 5:00P.M.
Mine Tours: 9:30A.M., 11:00 A.M., 12:30 P.M., 2:00 P.M., 3:30 P.M.

How To Get There:
The Asarco Mineral Discovery Center, & Mission Complex, Open Pit Copper Mine is located approximately 15 miles south of Tucson, Arizona, at 1421 West Pima Mine Road, Sahuarita, Arizona.
From Tucson, take Interstate 19 south to Exit 80, Pima Mine Road. Go west (turn right from the exit ramp) and get into the center-left-turn lane. Our main entrance gate is only a few hundred feet from the freeway on the south side of Pima Mine Road (on your left).
There are many hotels and motels in the Tucson, Arizona area. And also in nearby Green Valley. If you need a place to stay; Priceline.com can arrange that for you.
