Mentzelia multiflora, is a dicot, herbaceous, perennial wildflower of the family Loasaceae; about 2 to 3 feet tall and about 16 inches wide.

It is native to the Southwestern United States, California, and northwestern Mexico. It is a blazingstar and is a member of the Mentzelia genus, the stickleafs.

It has shiny white stems and numerous branches. Its sticky, gray - green leaves are covered with hairs containing minute barbs. The flowers are around 2 inches in diameter, they are yellow in color and normally have ten petals. The flowers open in late afternoon and close in the morning.

Mentzelia multiflora is found in the western United States and northern Mexico from Montana and North Dakota, south to Sonora and Chihuahua.

This species prefers dry, sandy well-drained soil. They require direct sunlight and cannot grow in the shade.

The plant is used as a Native American medicine to treat toothache. It is also a diuretic. The roots and leaves have been used to treat tuberculosis.

Flowers: Inflorescence with 1 to 3 flowers. The 1/3 inch to 4/5 inch, golden-yellow flower heads appear at the ends of branches.

Leaves: Gray - green, Up to 3 inches long and up to about 1 inch wide. They are sessile, narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, and occasionally oblanceolate; the margins are toothed to lobed.

Found: Southwestern United States in the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas; also in regions northwestern Mexico.
