Dalea pulchra, Legume Family: ( Fabaceae ), Bush Dalea. Also Called: Santa Catalina Prairie Clover, Indigo Bush, Dalea.

An evergreen perennial, fast growing, up to 8 feet high with a 5 feet spread. Most are about 3 - 4 feet high.

Dalea pulchra's height and small, silvery, blue-green leaves make it an attractive, easily established, low-maintenance groundcover for dry and arid sites.

Gregg dalea does not respond well to fertilizer and overwatering, especially in winter, although in our hottest summer weather supplemental water will help keep the foliage full.

Height: Up to 8 feet tall. 3 to 5 feet spread.

Flowers: Red - Purple to Light Pink - Purple. pea-like flowers about 1/4 inch long in very elongated clusters.

Blooming Time: March - May.

Leaves: Silvery green, has 2-4 leaflets, and palmately compound.

Found: The USDA claims Dalea greggii is native to the USA (AZ), (NM). In Arizona it is native to Pima, Santa Cruz, & Greenlee counties. In mexico it is found in the state of Sonora.

Elevation: Native from 600 to 2,500 feet.

USDA Zone 9b: to -3.8 �C (25 �F)
USDA Zone 10a: to -1.1 �C (30 �F)
USDA Zone 10b: to 1.7 �C (35 �F)

Soil pH requirements:
5.6 to 6.0 (acidic)
6.1 to 6.5 (mildly acidic)
6.6 to 7.5 (neutral)
7.6 to 7.8 (mildly alkaline)
7.9 to 8.5 (alkaline)

Sun Exposure:
Full Sun
Partial Shade

Habitat: Native to alkaline, rocky, limestone, hillsides of the Sonoran desert (Mexico, Arizona).. Does well in disturbed soil, roadways, sandy or gravelly areas. It takes low water, full sun to light part shade, and well draining soil. An ideal xeriscape landscape plant in Arizona.
