Mammillaria grahamii, Cactus family ( Cactaceae ), Fishhook Cactus. The Fishhook Cactus is also called Pincushion, Corkseed, Nipple, Graham's Nipple Cactus, Fishhook Mammilaria, grahamii f. cristate.

Microcarpa is thought to be a variety or sub - species of grahamii.

The Mammillaria genus is in a state of confusion among scientists. Thus, there are many species and sub species names, subject to change.

Height: Up To About 6" Tall.

Flowers: Pink to lavender, about 1" wide; bloom April to August. Blossoms last for about five days.

Flowering Time: April - August.

Fruit: Red club shaped fruit about 1" long.

Jointed Stalks: The joints are narrow (4 - 12 inches long and about 3/4 inch thick). The spines are relatively sparse.

Thorns: Gray, dense in clusters. They are curved like a fish hook.

Found: Throughout Arizona. Normally at well drained deserts and slopes. There are 10 species of Mammilaria in Arizona.

Habitat: Desert well drained slopes and flats, rocky bajadas. Usually under the shade protection of another plant, such as a bush.
