Bull Grass. Muhlenbergia emersleyi, Grass Family ( Poaceae ), Bull Grass. Also called: El Toro Muhly Grass. We wish to thank Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for some of the information on this page. We share images and information with Wikipedia. NOTE: We do not have photos, but we at least wanted to have a description of this plant. An evergreen clumping grass with blue-green foliage to about 2-3 feet tall and 4 feet wide. In the fall, it will grow with loose spikes with dark purple flowers rising above the foliage, which dry to a brown - tan color in the winter. Very drought tolerant. Plant in full sun or part shade in well drained soil for best results. It is hardy to 0� F. in (USDA Zone 7). Native to rocky slopes in oak woodlands from Arizona to Texas south into Mexico. Nurseries sell it as; "El Toro" or El Toro Muhly Grass.

Habitat: It grows well in Cactus Potting Soil. It grows best in rocky, loamy soil that is dry to moderately moist. It needs good drainage and aeration. Grows native in rocky slopes in oak woodlands.
