This page is about a tour that we took from Halifax Port to Peggy's Cove & Peggy's Point in the Canadian Providence of Nova Scotia. Of all of the tours that we took in Canada, this was the most interesting and beautiful. We can certainly recommend it! We wish to thank Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for much of the information we obtained about this area.
Peggy's Cove (Located At The Mouth Of Saint Margaret's Bay:
Many have asked, "How did Peggy's Cove get its name? There are two versions in existence and the first has more generally been accepted, because of its romantic and dramatic appeal to most people. The story goes that a schooner was wrecked on "Halibut Rock" off the Lighthouse Point, in a "Southeaster", in sleet and fog on a dark October night. The ship ran hard aground and with high waves washing her decks, some of her crew climbed to the masts, but the waves washed them into the boiling sea. Everyone on board was lost except a woman, who managed to survive the turbulent seas, swam ashore and was finally rescued by the people on the shore. Her name was Margaret, and she married one of the eligible bachelors of the Cove. The people from near-by places used to come and visit Peggy of the Cove, and before long they began to call the place Peggy's Cove. How true this story is, no one knows, and there are no documents available to confirm or refute it. In the second version, perhaps not so romantic, but more logical, Peggy's Cove, being situated at the entrance to St. Margaret's Bay, was shortened from Margaret's Cove, to the more intimate name of Peggy's Cove, a name world famous now for a place of scenic beauty, where tourists gather from far and near. The Municipality of the County of Halifax was the municipal government of Halifax County, apart from the separately incorporated towns and cities therein. It was dissolved in 1996, together with those town and city governments, in their amalgamation into Halifax Regional Municipality. Halifax Harbor is a large natural harbor on the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, located in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Based on average vessel speeds, the harbour is strategically located approximately one hour's sailing time north of the Great Circle Route between the Eastern Seaboard and Europe. As such, it is the first inbound and last outbound port of call in eastern North America with trans-continental rail connections.
The harbor includes the following geographic areas:
The Narrows A constricted passage to Bedford Basin. Bedford Basin A sheltered bay and the largest part of the harbour.
Islands:
The harbor limit is actually formed by the northern end of its largest island - McNabs Island. The largest island entirely within the harbour limits is Georges Island, a glacial drumlin similar to its dryland counterpart at Citadel Hill. Several small islands are located in the Bedford Basin near Bedford and Burnside. There is also a small island known as Deadman's Island (for the burial location of War of 1812 prisoners of war) in the Northwest Arm. Although outside the defined harbour limits, Lawlor Island and Devils Island are also frequently included in descriptions of Halifax Harbour and the surrounding area.

Peggys Cove (2009 population: approx. 46), also known as Peggy's Cove from 1961 to 1976, is a small rural community located on the eastern shore of St. Margarets Bay in Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality.
