Hardy Hummingbird Trumpet. Zauschneria californica ssp. latifolia. Willowherb, Fuchsia, or Evening Primose Family ( Onagraceae ), Hardy Hummingbird Trumpet. Also Called: Narrowleaf California Fuchsia, Hoary Fuchsia, Hummingbird Trumpet, Arizona Fuschsia, Epilobium canum ssp. latifolium, Epilobium canum var. latifolium, Zauschneria californica ssp. latifolia, Zauschneria latifolia, Zauschneria latifolia var. arizonica. It has multitudes of scarlet, trumpet shaped flowers in the fall with beautiful, curved, long stamens. It attracts hummingbirds. It then dies back to emerge bushier the next year. Considered a low water use (xeriscape) plant.

Height: About 24 inches high, with a spread of 3 - 4 feet.
Flowers: Intense scarlet, trumpet-shaped flowers 1 1/2 inch long flowers with 4, notched lobes.
Blooming Time: May - October.
Leaves: 1 inch long, very narrow, opposite, with 3 veins at base.
Found: The USDA claims it is native to the USA (AZ, CA, NM, NV, OR). Claimed to be native in most of the Arizona counties. Also native to Mexico in the states of: northern Sonora, northern Chihuahua, Baja Norte, Baja California, & Coahuila.
Elevation: Naturally found at 0 to 10,000 feet. Does well at lower elevations but needs some water.
Hardiness: We have read reports that it is found in the wild up to 10,000 feet.
