A broadleaf, compact, evergreen, shrub up to 5 feet tall with dense growth. It makes a colorful, informal hedge or screen. The leaves begin bronze and burgundy and mature to dark green. It's flowers are followed by blue-black fruits with 1 or 2 seeds and provide food for berry eating birds. This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies and/or birds. An ideal Xeriscape Landscape Plant in Arizona. Drought Tolerant, Fragrant, Long Blooming, Low Maintenance. This is a very popular landscaping plant in the lower elevations of arizona and it is considered an evergreen deciduous shrub. It is a a soft - branched shrub growing to up to about 3 to 5 feet (1-1.5 m) in height eventually forming a mound that is about as wide as high. There are not many shrubs that can easily be kept under 3 feet tall and Indian hawthorn is one of the best. This robust plant is evergreen, easy to grow, drought tolerant, with ornamental fruits and flowers thrown in as a bonus. This is a great selection for low maintenance plantings.

Leaves: The oblong leaves are thick, simple, glossy, alternate, and leathery with serrated edges. They are dark green on top and lighter on bottom and 3-4 in (8-10 cm) in length.
Flowers: Star shaped flowers are held at branch tips in loose clusters and are white or light pink, with five petals, and may be lightly fragrant.
Flowering Time: March - April and again September - October.
Found: Native of India, Taiwan, south-eastern Asia, and Southern China.
