The typical tour of Jerusalem takes the tourist to the Mount of Olives, from which the tourist can view the stunning views of the city below. Then a guide leads you on a walk of the Old City to view the Western Wall, the remnants of the Second Temple, the Davidson Center, where exhibits, include a reconstruction of the Herodian Temple Mount. Then you are taken through the restored Cardo, the old Roman Road, the ancient Via Dolorosa with the Stations of the Cross, the Christian Quarter, Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and then to Mount Zion to view King David's Tomb and the Room of the Last Supper.

Mount Zion lies to the south of today's city walls. Coming out of Zion Gate you are faced with the Benedictine Basilica of the Dormition.

The Dormition Abbey is a massive structure that rises on Mount Zion, just outside the Zion Gate, and resembles a mighty fortress; it is topped by a high, domed belltower, a conical dome and corner towers. This Benedictine Basilica, built over the site where Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, is said to have fallen asleep for the last time (Dormitio - from here one of the apocryphal writings describing this event).

It was completed by Kaiser Wilhelm II at the beginning of the twentieth century. It features mosaics and a wood-and-ivory statue of the sleeping Virgin in the crypt.

The Room of the Last Supper lies just outside the Dormition Abbey behind the Franciscan house on Sion. The whole area has been transformed by religious Jews into various Yeshivas (Schools of the Torah) especially due to the devotion for the Tomb of King David which is believed to be located beneath the Upper Room.

Church of St. Peter or Church Of Gallicantu on the eastern slopes of Mount Zion. Erected in 1931 to commemorate Peter's triple rejection of Jesus and his subsequent remorse. The church interior is one giant, multi-colored mosaic portraying New Testament figures.

Al-Aqsa Mosque is the second oldest mosque in Islam after the Ka'ba in Mecca, and is third in holiness and importance after the mosques in Mecca and Medina. It was here that during the Prophet Mohammad's life, he instructed Muslims to visit not only the mosque where they lived in Mecca, but also the 'Farthest mosque' from them, which lay 2000 kilometers north, in Jerusalem. Therefore the name, Al-Masjid El-Aqsa, or Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Church of the Visitation in Ein Karem, is the more ancient of the two churches in Ein Karem. The Empress Helena, who was Constantine's mother, identified the site as the home of Zechariah and the place where he and Elizabeth hid from Herod's soldiers. "Then Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea . . . ". (Luke 1:39).

The Mount of Olives, Olivet, or Mount Olivet, in Jerusalem, is located on the eastern side of the Kidron Valley from the Temple Mount and the rest of the city of Jerusalem. The mount is in the form of a two mile ridge which has three summits. The mountain is named after the olive trees that used to cover its slopes. Mount Olives is holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims

During the time of the first and second Temples, Mount Olives was the place where the high priest slaughtered and burned the 'Red Cow', who's ashes purify the impure.

The Mount Olives Hebrew Cemetery began here during the period of the first Temple, but the tombs seen there today begin from the 16th century and on.

There are two good reasons to want to be buried at The Mount Olives Hebrew Cemetery . First, the view to the old city is wonderful and second, when the Messiah arrives, all the dead will be resurrected, and since the messiah will arrive through the Golden Gate, then the people buried on The Mount of Olives will be the first in line to rise from the dead.

The Russian Orthodox Church of the Ascension was built in 1870 at the Mount Of Olives. It has a bell tower about 200 feet in height. The Mount of Olives Convent of the Ascension of Our Lord is located here.

During the fourth century, A.D., Helena, the mother of Constantine, visited the Holy Land and selected various locations associated with events mentioned in the Bible. She selected one of the summits of the Mount of Olives as place of Jesus' ascension into Heaven.

This church is where traditionally the last footprint of Jesus on earth was before he ascended into Heaven."

The Dome Of The Rock was built on a platform over the rock of Mount Moriah about 1,300 years ago by the Muslim Umayyad Caliph Abdul Malek bin Marwan. It was completed in 691 A.D. . It is a shrine in the Al-Aqsa Mosque commemorating the Prophet Mohammad's journey to the Seven Heavens.
