Lotus wrightii, Papilionaceae Family also the Bean Family ( Fabaceae ) and Pea Family (Leguminosae), Wright's Deervetch. Also Called: Wright's Trefoil, Scrub Bird's-foot Trefoil, Wright deervetch.

Wright's Deervetch is a dark green plant with several erect stems which has a spray of three very narrow , stalkless pinnately compound leaves, alternately swirled around the stem. Its very attractive red/orange/yellow pea like flowers arise from the leaf nodes. The stems can be upright or reclining.

Look for Lotus wrightii in rocky open areas and in openings in Pine and Oak forests.

A perennial Subshrub Shrub, Forb/herb. This plant is considered Native to the United States of America.

Height: About 8 - 16 inches. Spreading out to about 16 inches wide.

Flowers: Yellow color, in clusters of 1 - 3, tinged red or orange and a red-backed banner petal.

Flowering Time: April to September.

Fruit: Pod about 1" (2.5 cm) long, slender.

Leaves: Leaves are pinnately compound, with 3-5 crowded leaflets, each 1/4-1/2" (6-13 mm) long.

Found: Southeastern California to southern Utah and Colorado; south to New Mexico and Arizona. Native to USA.

Full Sun

Elevation: 0 - 5,500 Feet.

Habitat: On roadsides, flats, rocky hillsides. Openings in Pine, Juniper, and Oak forests.
