Nice or in Italian, Nizza or Nizza Marittima, is a city in southern France located on the Mediterranean coast, between Marseille, France, and Genoa, Italy. Nice is a major tourist resort on the French Riviera (Cte d'Azur). It is the old capital city of the County of Nice (Comt de Nice). When we visited Nice, we found the Promenade to be a wonderful place to visit. Unfortunatly, the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France was the target of a horrible attack by ISIS on July 15, 2016; killing many people and injuring hundreds of others. Nice has a Mediterranean climate and in the summer when we were there it was hot and dry. Not at all unfamilier to us, since we are from Arizona. While, it has many tourist aminities, we did not find Nice to be that great of a tourist place and we did not stay. In general it was simply too crowded to be interesting. We prefer the less crowded beaches of Mexico. Lyon also spelled Lyons, is a city in east-central France in the region of the Rhne-Alpes. Lyon is a major center of business, situated between Paris and Marseille, and has a reputation as the French capital of gastronomy . The residents of the city are called Lyonnais. Lyon forms the second-largest metropolitan area in France after that of Paris Lyon is the capital of the Rhne dpartement, and also the capital of the Rhne-Alpes rgion. The city is known for its many historical and architectural landmarks and it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lyon was historically known as the silk capital of the world. The city is known as the culinary capital of France. It also hosts numerous international headquarters such as Interpol. The Rhne and Sane rivers that converge to the south of Lyon forming a peninsula. This tour also went through some of the Tuscany Region of Italy. The Tuscan wine (Italian Toscana) is Italian wine from the Tuscany region. Located in central Italy along the Tyrrhenian coast, Tuscany is home to some of the world's most notable wine regions. Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are primarily made with Sangiovese grape whereas the Vernaccia grape is the basis of the white Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Tuscany is also known for the dessert wine Vin Santo, made from a variety of the region's grapes. Tuscany has thirty-three Denominazioni di origine controllata (DOC) and nine Denominazioni di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG). In the 1970s a new class of wines known in the trade as "Super Tuscans" emerged. These wines were made outside DOC/DOCG regulations but were considered of high quality and commanded high prices. Many of these wines became cult wines. If you are a wine connoisseur, then this region is a "must visit!" We were first there in August of 1999.
