The left bank of the Nile is contains a small ruined dome shaped temple called Qubett el Hawa (top of the winds). It is located on the peak of the hill . The most visited landmarks of the site are, the ancient rock-hewn Tombs of the Nubian Princes Of Elephantine, located just below the dome on the side of the hill. They are reached through two staircases rising up from the riverbank to them.
These can easilly be seen on the Google Map at the top of this page.
The tombs are arrayed in two levels; the lower level is allocated for tombs of the Old Kingdom's nobles and the higher ones for the nobles of the Middle Kingdom.
Alive at the same time as the pharaohs of the end of the Old Kingdom, these Nubian Princes had their tombs built into the rock near the top of the hill. These tombs are richly enhanced by paintings on their walls.
The tomb of Hega-ib was discovered in 1947. We know that he was the governor of Elephantine at the end of the Old Kingdom.
At the southern end of the necropolis are the tombs of the father and son, Mekhu and Sabni. We know that Mekhu went south on the nile to the second cataract and there he
encountered death. His son, Sabni, went to find his body and returned it to be embalmed and placed into the tomb. Scenes of hunting and fishing are in the tomb.
Little remains of the tomb of Sirenpowet I, the son of Satseni, a 12th dynasty prince.
The best preserved tomb is the tomb of Sirenpowet II, one of the prophets of Khnum during the end of the 12th dynasty.
The Cairo International Airport (IATA: CAI, ICAO: HECA) is the busiest airport in Egypt and is located to the north-east of the city around 15 km from the business area of the city.

We suggest flying into Cairo and staying in one of their many fine hotels when touring the Egyptian Musium in Cairo and the ruins in the surrounding areas.
