The Louvre Pyramid (Pyramide du Louvre) is a large glass and metal pyramid, surrounded by three smaller pyramids, in the main courtyard (Cour Napolon) of the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre) in Paris. The large pyramid serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum. Completed in 1989, it has become a landmark of the city of Paris. The Louvre, has dominated central Paris since the late 12th century. Built on the city's western edge, the original structure was gradually engulfed as the city grew. The dark fortress of the early days was transformed into the modernized dwelling of Franois I and, later, the sumptuous palace of the Sun King, Louis XIV. It has been a museum since 1793. We were first there in August of 1999. Every time we have traveled there on our own, it has been very crowded and hard to tour, because of the large crowds. We have learned that the very best way to tour The Louvre is to use viator.com/. Many of their tours are done by locals who really know the area. When we first toured Paris, we wish that we had someone like viator.com/ who we could have used. We have several links to their website on this page, so you can contact them,if you wish.
Here is a link to viator.com/ if you wish to arrange for private tours, or group tours, which will help you to avoid long waits to visit the various destinations in Paris. Private Tour: Paris Street Photography in Le Marais.
