After the martyrdom of Joseph Smith, the Saints were led from Nauvoo to the site of modern day Salt Lake City. It was not too long afterwards that Brigham Young directed the Saints to expand their growth into other areas. One of those areas was to become a Southern Utah cotton growing area, known as Dixie. This was to help the Northern United States to obtain cotton that was being withheld due to the American Civil War. This region became modern day, Saint George, Utah. Prior to the Saint George Temple being built, a Meeting House was built for worship. This Tabernacle was built of red sandstone walls and elegant interior plaster walls with beautiful woodwook interior trim and it became part of the pride of Southern Utah's, Dixie. As of today's date, all of the prophets of the LDS church, except for Joseph Smith, have spoken from it's pulpit.
