The San Francisco de Asis Mission Church is a U.S. National Monument located about 15 miles southwest of Alamogordo in the western county of Otero, and the northeastern county of Dona Ana in the state of New Mexico, at an elevation of about 4,235 feet. The San Francisco de Asis Mission Church is located on the plaza in Ranchos de Taos, itself a historic district named Ranchos de Taos Plaza, about four miles southwest of the town of Taos, New Mexico. The San Francisco de Asis Mission Church is a church built between 1772 and 1816. Construction on the church began in about 1772 and was completed in 1815 by Franciscan Fathers, and its patron is Saint Francis of Assisi. It is made of adobe. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970. It is also designated as a World Heritage church.
Inside the parish office resides �The Shadow of the Cross� or �the Mystery Painting� by Henry Ault. A small fee is charged and you will also be shown a short video about the Church. These can be viewed Mon.-Fri. 9AM-4PM. San Francisco de Asis Church visiting hours 9-4 Mon.-Sat.
Sunday Mass Service: 7am Spanish, 9am & 11:30am
