The Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland: (As quoted from their own website.) "Wearing their distinctive white helmets, the Royal Marines Bands are renowned throughout the world for the quality of their music, visual splendour and precision drill. The Band is unique among Royal Marine Bands not only because it is based in Scotland, but also as it is the only Royal Marines Band stationed north of London. The Band travels extensively throughout Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North of England. The band also travels abroad and has visited in Holland, Gibraltar, St Moritz Switzerland for the stock exchange Ski Championships, Cyprus for the Queens Birthday Celebrations and most recently Washington DC, USA. All members of the Band play at least two instruments and are required to perform all styles of music including wind band, marching band, orchestral and dance band engagements, making the Royal Marines musician one of the most versatile and adept in the military music world. All members of the Band are also trained to do other military duties as required of all soldiers; ie...they have served as carriers of the wounded in military actions worldwide." Stirling Castle, Stirling, Scotland In The UK: Stirling Castle near Stirling, Scotland In The UK is the grandest of Scotland's castles and among the most popular visitor attractions in Scotland. Stirling Castle is located on Castle Hill, about 250 feet above the plain on an extinct volcano. This is part of the Stirling Sill, which is a formation of quartz-dolerite around 350 million years old. While this area was probably occupied in very early times for its defensive position, the area of Stirling Castle became the strategic military key to Scotland during the 13th and 14th century Wars of Independence. It was also the favored royal residence of many of the Stuart Monarchs. As such, many interesting events from Scotland's history took place at Stirling Castle, including the murder of the eighth Earl of Douglas by James II in 1452. Stirling Castle played an important role in the life of Mary Queen of Scots. She spent her childhood in the castle and her coronation took place inside the Chapel Royal in 1543.
