Leucophyllum candidum 'Cloud' is a low evergreen shrub, or herbaceous perennial shrub.

This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies and/or birds. Drought-tolerant; suitable for xeriscaping.

With its intense violet flowers that appear in the summer through fall in response to humidity or rainfall, it is an eye-catching plant.

Any Violet Silverleaf must be planted in extremely well-drained alkaline soil in full sun. Overwatering or poor drainage will quickly kill it, and shade will promote sparse, leggy growth and less flowering.

Benny Simpson Benny J. Simpson at Texas A&M; University developed two selections of L. candidum to the market: 'Silver Cloud', for its rich purple flowers and silvery leaves, and 'Thunder Cloud', smaller and more floriferous than 'Silver Cloud'. Both are called the "Cloud Series."

'Silver Cloud' is very popular in Arizona.
