This is a Pre-Columbian surface and underground Salt-Clay-Gypsum mine that is located about 2 miles West of Camp Verde, SE of Clarkdale, on the West side of the Verde River. This mine was also worked from the 1920's to 1933. Even though people are not supposed to collect minerals from this site, some people still find nice minerals and collect mineral specimans at the site.
For an interesting discussion of the ancient use of this site to obtain salt, we refer to "An Aboriginal Salt Mine At Camp Verde Arizona". by Earl H. Morris, The American Museum Of Natural History.
