Marshall Lake: Elevation about 7,211 feet.
Marshall Lake is a very small is a small marshy body of water that can be dry during some parts of the year. A Google Earth Map search marks the center of Marshall Lake at about 35o 05' 23.28" N 111o 30' 46.35" W.
Marshall Lake, which is actually more of a marsh than a lake, is frequented by bald eagles in the winter and osprey in the summer. Several species of waterfowl, such as coots, and a variety of small hawks are generally present year-round. A number of primitive campsites near the east side of the lake provide exceptional views of the nearby peaks. The surrounding area also contains plentiful elk herds and rare wintering bald eagles. It usually opens in early May and is closed in mid-October. A very primitive boat launch is on the east side of the lake. Camping next to the lake is not allowed; camp on the other side of the road. There is no toilets, tables, or drinking water available. To Get There: Drive 9 miles south from Flagstaff on Forest Highway 3 (Lake Mary Road). Turn east (left) on Forest Road 128 about 3 miles to the lake. The last mile is unpaved and may be blocked at times due to mud or snow. If you are planning to visit Marshall Lake. And if you are coming from outside of Arizona, you could fly into Flagstaff, Arizona and then rent a car. You also could fly into the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and drive the 144 miles to Flagstaff. Take the I-17 north to Flagstaff. I-17 will end and turn into Milton Road, leading you into Flagstaff. A trip of 144 miles (232 km) - 2 hours. There is also a Sky Harbor - Flagstaff shuttle. There are many hotels and motels in both areas and if you need a place to stay; Priceline.com can arrange that for you. In addition, you may need to purchase some outdoor gear, boating equipment, or fishing gear. As you know, inflatable boats, inflatable kayaks and canoes are ideal for the many of the smaller lakes, streams, and rivers found in Arizona. In some cases they are even required.
